Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional and ambitious leader to join our People and Culture Directorate as our Director of Inclusion and Organisational Development.

This is a rare opportunity to influence culture at scale and make a lasting difference to the experience of thousands of colleagues who deliver vital mental health, learning disability and community services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our People and Culture Strategy, leading programmes that strengthen inclusion, leadership, organisational development, staff wellbeing and learning across the Trust. You will work closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Directors, clinical leaders, staff networks and system partners to create an environment where every colleague feels valued, heard, respected and empowered to thrive.

We are looking for an inspirational leader with a proven track record of delivering large-scale cultural transformation and organisational development within complex organisations. You will be passionate about advancing equality, diversity and inclusion, tackling workforce inequalities and creating the conditions for compassionate, inclusive leadership at every level.

Main duties of the job

Lead the strategic delivery of the Trust's People and Culture Strategy, ensuring inclusion, organisational development and staff experience are embedded across all services.
Drive cultural transformation programmes that create a restorative, just, fair and psychologically safe working environment for all colleagues.
Lead the development and delivery of the Trust's race equity, equality, diversity and inclusion priorities, reducing workforce inequalities and improving outcomes for underrepresented groups.
Develop and implement innovative leadership, talent and organisational development programmes that build a diverse and inclusive future workforce.
Provide expert advice and assurance to Executive Directors, Board Committees and senior leaders on culture, inclusion, organisational development and workforce engagement.
Lead the Trust's staff wellbeing agenda, creating evidence-based approaches that support the physical, psychological, social and financial wellbeing of colleagues.
Strengthen employee voice, staff networks and partnership working to ensure colleagues are actively involved in shaping organisational improvement.
Build strong relationships across the NHS and wider system, influencing regional and national people and culture priorities while showcasing excellence and innovation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As Director of Inclusion and Organisational Development, you will provide strategic leadership for the development of a positive, inclusive and high-performing organisational culture across Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will lead the Trust's inclusion, staff experience, leadership, organisational development, learning and wellbeing functions, ensuring these services deliver meaningful and measurable improvements for colleagues and the organisation.

Working collaboratively with Executive Directors, senior leaders, staff networks, staff side representatives and external partners, you will help shape and deliver the Trust's People and Culture Strategy. You will be responsible for developing programmes and interventions that strengthen engagement, belonging, psychological safety and organisational effectiveness.

Success in this role will require exceptional leadership, strategic thinking and influencing skills, together with a strong track record of delivering cultural change within complex organisations. You will be passionate about creating inclusive workplaces where people feel safe, valued and empowered, and where organisational success is achieved through the growth, wellbeing and development of its people.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Educated to master’s degree level, or equivalent, with substantial senior management experience
Able to demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge equivalent to a masters in Organisation Development/ Occupational Psychology/ ED&I/HR
In-depth knowledge of modern OD interventions and techniques across multiple strands including leadership and ED&I
Recent and relevant evidence of leadership development and expertise
Evidence of recent and ongoing continuing professional and personal development

Desirable criteria

CIPD Chartered Member or Fellow (or working towards)
Programme/project management qualification
Coaching Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

Significant experience of leading large scale organisational development and culture change with demonstrable success
Significant experience of providing advice on people matters in a large, complex and multi-professional organisation
Extensive experience in leading OD, Inclusion and wellbeing programmes that deliver tangible benefits and improvements, including anti-racist cultures
Extensive experience of highly effective partnership working with internal and external stakeholders. A record of building positive relationships with staff side.
Experience of developing education, training and development programmes in large organisations
