Durham Lifting Ltd is a leading provider of crane servicing, maintenance, inspections, repairs, and lifting solutions throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Electrical Crane Engineer to join our established Crane Maintenance & Servicing team based in Middlesbrough.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to work on a wide range of overhead cranes, gantry cranes, lifting equipment, and bespoke lifting systems across various industrial sectors.
The Role
As an Electrical Crane Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, servicing, fault finding, repairs, and commissioning work on overhead crane systems and lifting equipment. You will play a key role in ensuring our customers' equipment remains safe, reliable, and compliant with current regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on cranes and lifting equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on crane systems and associated controls.
- Perform mechanical and electrical repairs and modifications.
- Attend customer breakdowns and provide effective fault-finding solutions.
- Complete statutory inspections in accordance with LOLER and PUWER requirements.
- Accurately complete inspection reports, service records, and job documentation.
- Assist with crane installations, upgrades, and commissioning projects.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures.
- Maintain professional relationships with customers and site personnel.
Requirements
- Proven experience working on overhead cranes, lifting equipment, or industrial electrical systems.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of motors, drives, control panels, inverters, and crane electrics.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel and work throughout the UK when required.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with overhead travelling cranes, gantry cranes, or jib cranes.
- Electrical engineering qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC, apprenticeship, or equivalent).
- Experience completing LOLER inspections.
- IPAF, PASMA, or relevant site safety qualifications.
