About Miller House
Miller House is a solo placement children's home providing therapeutic residential care for a young person with complex mental health, SEMH, autism and behavioural needs. Our practice is relationship-based, trauma-informed and autism-informed, promoting emotional safety, positive behaviour support and least restrictive practice.
Purpose of the Role
The Mental Health, SEMH & Behaviour Practitioner will work as part of the core residential team, providing specialist mental health, behavioural and SEMH support within the home. The post holder will deliver direct therapeutic interventions, coach residential staff, support crisis prevention, contribute to assessments and plans, and help embed a consistent therapeutic culture across Miller House.
Main Responsibilities
· Build and maintain a positive therapeutic relationship with the young person.
· Provide direct mental health, SEMH and behaviour support throughout daily routines.
· Monitor emotional wellbeing and recognise early signs of deterioration.
· Support emotional regulation, recovery and resilience.
· Deliver one-to-one therapeutic sessions where appropriate.
· Implement recommendations from CAMHS and other professionals.
· Support staff using trauma-informed, autism-informed, PACE and Positive Behaviour Support approaches.
· Attend appointments, professionals' meetings and reviews.
· Participate in activities and community access.
· Advocate for the young person's mental health needs.
Risk Management
· Support management of self-harm, suicidal ideation and emotional crises.
· Complete dynamic risk assessments and contribute to Behaviour Support Plans, Therapeutic Safety Plans and Risk Assessments.
· Review incidents to identify patterns, triggers and learning.
· Promote least restrictive practice and proactive safety planning.
· Support post-incident debriefs and therapeutic repair.
Recording & Documentation
· Maintain accurate and contemporaneous electronic records using ClearCare.
· Complete daily logs, observations, direct work, body maps and welfare records.
· Complete incident reports before leaving the shift.
· Complete physical intervention records before leaving the shift.
· Produce reports for reviews and professionals' meetings.
· Ensure all recording is factual, child-focused and reflects the young person's voice.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
· Promote the welfare of children at all times.
· Report safeguarding concerns immediately.
· Maintain professional boundaries.
· Work in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children and the Children's Homes Regulations 2015.
Professional Expectations
· Participate in supervision, appraisal and reflective practice.
· Complete mandatory training.
· Work flexibly across the home's rota.
· Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
· Maintain confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
Essential Qualifications
· Relevant qualification or substantial experience as an RMN, Mental Health Practitioner, SEMH Practitioner, Behaviour Practitioner, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Assistant Psychologist, Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner or similar.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
· Experience supporting children with complex mental health, SEMH and behavioural needs.
· Experience supporting autism and sensory needs.
· Experience supporting self-harm and suicidal ideation.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment and Positive Behaviour Support.
· Excellent spoken English and excellent written communication skills.
· Ability to understand and implement complex care plans and safeguarding procedures.
· Previous experience using ClearCare residential care software is essential. Applicants must be confident completing daily logs, observations, incidents, body maps, key work sessions, behaviour monitoring, risk assessments and statutory recording using the ClearCare electronic recording system.
· Strong organisational and multidisciplinary working skills.
Desirable Experience
· CAMHS experience.
· Residential children's home experience.
· Experience supporting autism in solo placements.
· Experience supporting self-harm and suicidal behaviours.
· Knowledge of Ofsted Quality Standards.
· Approved physical intervention training.
· Full UK driving licence.

Pay: £19.00-£24.00 per hour
