Trust Specialist Registrar in Stroke - Banded (On call Rota) X2

We are looking to recruit a full-time doctor to join the Stroke Unit on a 1 year fixed term contract.

All posts working with vulnerable groups will be subject to an enhanced criminal records check upon appointment and staff will need to give their consent for the Trust to receive regular updates on their criminal records status throughout their employment.

Please note, as per updated UKVI guidelines, from April 2017 candidates appointed to any role that we are able to request sponsorship for a Tier 2 (general) visa will be required to provide an overseas criminal record certificate for themselves and any adult dependents from each country that they have lived in consecutively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.

Candidates must hold MBBS or equivalent and be expected to have completed foundation 1 year training, and ideally have experience at F2, CT1/2 or ST1/2/3 level.

The successful applicant will be expected to have full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise.

To provide in-patient and out-patient care for patients referred with suspected stroke or TIA, stroke mimics and medical outliers on the Stroke Unit.

To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care

To contribute to the development of clinical quality and effectiveness in other clinical areas where these overlap with developments in stroke.

To take part in the Unit’s research programme.

Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice

Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.

Clinical fellows are not formally approved training posts, but the post holder will have consultant-led education and supervision and will be supported in their professional development e.g. towards MRCP and eventually higher specialist training.

Applicants should be competent clinicians and have some experience in general and geriatric medicine. Experience in stroke is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided and appropriate candidates will be encouraged to develop skills relevant to stroke management.

The stroke unit provides patients with a 24/7 access to highly specialist dedicated stroke staff, direct admission to HASU beds which ensures that patients are cared for by specialist staff from the minute they arrive. The Unit is well coordinated with multidisciplinary care on newly refurbished wards planned specifically for stroke patients.

There are rehabilitation facilities, such as therapy gyms, kitchens and an assessment bathroom, as well as 7-day TIA clinics.

There is a 24/7 on-call rota for thrombolysis which is staffed by Trust Specialist Registrars in stroke medicine and stroke nurses with consultant support at home.
