Job Title: IT / DataCabling / Infrastructure Engineer
CBRE GlobalWorkplace Solutions is a leading provider of integrated facilities andcorporate real estate management services. We are seeking an IT/Data Cabling/InfrastructureEngineer to join our team supporting a prestigious client account.
Role Summary:
The primary focusof this role is to take full ownership and accountability for the operationalrequirements of communication rooms across occupied office environments. Thisincludes ensuring that all data cabling, racks, PDUs, and supportinginfrastructure are installed, maintained, tested, and managed in accordancewith current standards, legislation, and client requirements. The role alsorequires overseeing the client’s appointed external contractor to ensure allplanned preventive maintenance (PPM) for M&E systems is completed in linewith agreed schedules. This position requires travel between Paddington,Reading, and Basingstoke, with occasional travel to Europe as needed.
This role sits within theCorporate Real Estate (CRE) team and works closely with the Corporate IT (CIT)team. The CRE team maintains accountability for communications rooms, passiveinfrastructure, and associated M&E systems, while CIT retains ownership ofactive IT equipment housed within the racks

Structured Cabling
Install,terminate, label, test, and fault‑find structured data cabling (copper andfibre) in occupied office environments.
Runcabling from patch panels to:
MainDistribution Frames (MDFs)
IntermediateDistribution Frames (IDFs)
End‑useroutlets and meeting room locations
Carryout certification testing using industry‑standard testing equipment and ensureresults are accurately recorded.
Ensureall cabling installations meet recognised industry standards and internalrequirements.
Maintainaccurate cabling records, labelling, and as‑built documentation.
Communications Rooms (IDF / MDF) Ownership
Actas the responsible person for all communications rooms within the building(s).
Ensureall comms rooms are:
Secure,clean, and well organised
Maintainedin accordance with current standards and legislation
Freefrom unauthorised equipment, materials, or cabling
Maintaindata racks, containment systems, PDUs, and all passive infrastructuresupporting the racks.
Monitorenvironmental conditions and escalate issues to engineering teams whererequired.
Interface with Corporate IT (CIT)
Act as the primary point of contact for CIT for any proposedchanges or additions to data racks.
Reviewand coordinate all new equipment installations before works commence.
Providesafe access and suitable infrastructure for CIT activities, without assumingresponsibility for active IT equipment.
Moves, Adds and Changes (MACs)
Supportsmall office moves, desk reconfigurations, and layout changes to ensure usershave the correct connectivity.
Coordinateactivities with workplace, facilities, and IT teams to minimise disruption.
Contractor Management
Coordinateand oversee client‑appointed subcontractors completing:
Largercabling installations
Projectworks
Officemoves and reconfigurations
Monitorquality of workmanship and ensure compliance with agreed standards, designspecification, and site procedures.
Escalatenon‑compliance or performance issues where required.
Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM)
Overseecompletion of all PPM activities related to: M&E systems supportingcommunications, rooms, Data cabling infrastructure, Cleaning of communicationsrooms by the appropriate internal teams or contractors
Trackcompletion, documentation, and follow‑up actions.
Completeroutine visual checks of communication rooms
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensureall works are carried out in line with health, safety, and site procedures.
Promotebest practice in cable management, housekeeping, and risk reduction withincommunications spaces.
Maintaina strong understanding of H&S obligations.
General
Managethe end‑to‑end process for change requests relating to equipment incommunication rooms, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures andthe change control calendar.
Upholdrobust access‑control processes for all communication rooms.
Stayinformed about industry trends and emerging technologies.
Undertakeadditional tasks as directed by senior management.
Promoteand uphold the core values of CBRE.
Experience Required:
Qualifications
City & Guilds 3668 Level 3Certificate in Communications Cabling, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Eligible to hold an ECSNetwork Infrastructure Installer Level 3 card (Copper, Fibre, or both).
Proven hands on experienceinstalling, terminating, testing, and fault finding structured cabling inoccupied office environments.
Desirable
BICSI certification (Installeror Technician level).
Manufacturer or cable testercertification (e.g. Fluke).
Bachelor’s degree in ComputerScience, Information Technology, or related field.
Skills & Experience
Experience working in enterprisecommunications rooms.
Strong organisational skills andattention to detail.
Ability to work independently andtake ownership of assigned areas.
Experience coordinating third‑partycontractors.
Clear communication skills and aprofessional approach when working with internal teams and clients.
