Data Product Engineer Apprentice (Level 5) – Build the Future of Data at Peabody
Are you passionate about data and ready to take the next step in your technical career? As a Data Product Engineer Apprentice at Peabody, you’ll play a key role in building and maintaining trusted data products that support better decision-making across the organisation.
This is a Level 5 apprenticeship, designed for individuals who already have some experience or exposure to data or technology and are looking to develop into a fully-fledged data engineer. You’ll work closely with our Lead Data Product Engineer and wider team, developing your skills in a structured, supportive environment while contributing to real projects from day one.
What you’ll do

Support the development of data pipelines and transformations using Azure Data Platform tools (Databricks, Data Factory, Data Lake Gen2)

Contribute to building and maintaining curated data layers (bronze, silver, gold)

Write and develop Python and SQL code for data transformation tasks

Assist in implementing data quality checks, monitoring and issue resolution

Create and maintain technical documentation including data dictionaries and lineage records

Work with product owners, analysts and stakeholders to understand data requirements

Take part in agile ways of working including stand‑ups, sprint planning and retrospectives

Engage in mentoring, code reviews and structured learning with senior engineers
-
Follow data governance, security and metadata standards

Raise issues and contribute to continuous improvement across the data team
What you’ll gain during your apprenticeship
As part of your 21‑month Level 5 Databricks Engineer Apprenticeship, you will:

Receive structured on‑the‑job training with experienced engineers
-
Attend formal training sessions, workshops and learning modules
-
Develop practical skills through real data engineering projects
-
Take part in regular 1:1s, feedback sessions and development planning
-
Build a strong technical foundation in modern data platforms
-
Complete an End Point Assessment (EPA)
What you’ll need

A genuine interest in data, technology and problem‑solving
-
Some prior experience or exposure to data, analytics or software development (e.g. through work, study, bootcamps or projects)

Basic familiarity with Python or SQL (or willingness to develop quickly)

Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high‑quality work

Ability to work collaboratively and ask questions to learn

Good organisational skills and ability to manage your workload
-
A proactive mindset and willingness to learn in a fast‑evolving environment

This is a Level 5 apprenticeship, so we’re looking for candidates who already have some exposure to data, technology or analytical work and are ready to build on this foundation.
The recruitment process will include:

Final stage interviews (in person): Wednesday 8th July at Westminster Bridge Road
