Full job description

Overview

Working Pattern:- 40 hours per week, alternate weekends.

To plan, organise, and deliver a varied programme of meaningful activities and events that promote residents’ wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion. The Activities Co-ordinator plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life for residents through recreational, creative, physical, and cognitive engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Delivery of Activities

Design and implement a diverse activity programme based on residents’ interests, preferences, and abilities.
Facilitate group sessions (e.g. arts and crafts, games, music, exercise) and one-to-one activities for residents who are less mobile or prefer quiet engagement.
Organise special events, themed days, seasonal celebrations, and outings, ensuring appropriate risk assessments are in place.

Resident Engagement

Build positive relationships with residents and families to understand life histories, hobbies, and personal goals.
Encourage participation and adapt activities to individual needs, including those living with dementia or physical limitations.
Support residents in maintaining independence and a sense of purpose through meaningful occupation.

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with care teams to integrate activities into daily care routines and clinical needs.
Liaise with volunteers, entertainers, community groups, and external providers to enhance the activity offering.
Promote activities throughout the home, using noticeboards, newsletters, and visual displays.

Monitoring and Reporting

Keep accurate records of resident participation, engagement, and feedback to inform future planning.
Contribute to care reviews, handovers, and wellbeing discussions as appropriate.
Report concerns about residents’ wellbeing or behaviour to the care team or management.

Health, Safety and Compliance

Follow infection control, health and safety, and safeguarding policies at all times.
Ensure safe use of equipment and materials during activities.
Support CQC compliance by evidencing how activities enhance residents’ quality of life under the “responsive” and “well-led” domains.

Person Specification

Essential:

Creative, enthusiastic, and passionate about supporting older people
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Organised and able to plan and deliver engaging activities
Ability to adapt to residents’ needs and work inclusively
Respectful, compassionate, and person-centred approach

Desirable:

Previous experience in a similar role in a care home or community setting
Knowledge of dementia-friendly activities or therapeutic engagement
Driving licence (if outings are part of the role)
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or Activity Provision (or willingness to work towards)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £14.00 per hour
