ION Platform Specialist – Trading & Risk Systems (Dev / Support / BA)

MARGO is a tech-native consultancy delivering high value-added IT expertise to the financial services industry.

We specialise in complex trading and risk environments built around critical platforms where reliability, workflow consistency and business interaction are key. Our consultants work close to Front Office, Risk and Operations teams on systems that are central to trading activity and decision-making.

Business Context

You will work within trading, risk or post-trade technology environments built around ION platforms.

These platforms support end-to-end workflows including:

trade capture and lifecycle management
risk and valuation processes
operational and regulatory flows
integration with upstream and downstream systems

The role involves close interaction with business users and strong ownership of platform behaviour in production environments.

Role Overview

We are looking for ION Platform Specialists to work on production-critical trading and risk platforms.

This role is intentionally open and may suit profiles with a background in:

development
application or production support
business analysis
or hybrid roles combining several of these aspects

What matters most is strong ION platform expertise, production awareness and the ability to work effectively with business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Ownership & Production

Work on ION platforms supporting trading and risk activities
Ensure platform stability, data integrity and workflow consistency
Investigate and resolve production incidents
Act as a key point of contact between technology and business users
Participate in platform upgrades and release activities

Configuration, Development & Integration

Configure and customise ION modules and workflows
Develop or enhance scripts, integrations and platform components
Work on interfaces with surrounding systems and data sources
Contribute to performance tuning and platform optimisation

Business Interaction & Analysis

Work closely with Front Office, Risk or Operations users
Understand business processes and translate them into platform solutions
Participate in requirements analysis, testing and delivery
Support users during change and onboarding phases

Technical Environment

Core Technologies

ION platforms
SQL / relational databases
Scripting and automation
Linux / UNIX environments

Valued Technical Exposure

Trading, risk or post-trade systems
Market data or valuation flows
Integration architectures
Development experience (any language)

Required Experience & Skills

Essential

Hands-on experience with ION platforms
Experience working on production-critical systems
Strong understanding of trading or risk workflows
Ability to interact confidently with business users
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ownership and production mindset

Valued (but not restrictive)

Development background
Application support or FO support experience
Business analysis experience in trading or risk environments
Exposure to Front Office or Risk teams
