Job Title: Theatre Scrub Practitioner

Department: Main Theatre & MITU Day Surgery

Salary: Competitive – Band 5

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Shifts: Monday to Saturday rotation covering early shifts, late shifts, weekends, and on-call

Role overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Theatre Scrub Practitioner who enjoys working in a fast-paced surgical setting and wants exposure to a varied and advanced caseload!

Our Theatre department includes 10 operating theatres and is a highly skilled and supportive environment, covering a broad range of specialties including Orthopaedics, Spinal, Urology, Gynaecology, Plastics, ENT, Robotics, Ophthalmology, and Cancer services.

The Role:

You will work across both Main Theatre and MITU Day Surgery, gaining exposure to both complex inpatient surgery and high-volume day case procedures. MITU specialises in minimally invasive and short stay surgery and is known for its efficient patient flow and strong team culture, while Main Theatre supports more complex surgical procedures using advanced technology and modern surgical techniques.

Our theatre teams are recognised for innovation and collaboration, including robotic surgery and pioneering telesurgery. The London Clinic was recently involved in a landmark robot assisted telesurgery procedure, where surgeons in London successfully operated on a patient in Gibraltar, highlighting the advanced technology and expertise within our theatre services. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills within a hospital that genuinely invests in its people and services.

What you will be doing:

Prepare surgical instruments, consumables, and equipment ahead of procedures
Scrub and assist during surgery while maintaining a safe sterile environment
Anticipate the needs of surgeons and support the smooth running of theatre lists
Maintain high standards of infection prevention and perioperative practice
Accurately complete theatre documentation and patient records
Participate in WHO safety checks and clinical governance activities
Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, recovery teams, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues
Support junior team members, students, and new starters within the department
Contribute to service improvement and a positive team culture across theatres

What we are looking for:

Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with valid NMC or HCPC registration
Previous experience working in a scrub role within an acute hospital environment
Strong understanding of perioperative care and infection prevention standards
Organised and proactive approach to patient care
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work effectively within a busy theatre environment
Interest in ongoing learning and professional development
