Full job description

Band 5 Assistant Research Facilitator

Fixed term: 2 years (Full time 37.5 hours per week)

£38,488 - £46,852 inclusive of HCAS per annum pro rata

The post holder will work as part of the R&D office team provide support to the KCH research portfolio of studies. They will support both the research office and research teams in the development and facilitation of research activity. They will develop a detailed understanding of the purpose and principles of NHS research and development and the regulatory requirements applicable to research. The post will be managed by the Research Governance Specialist.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the assessment of the capability and capacity for KCH to undertake research, to complement the Health Research Authority approval system for research, ensuring that assessments are undertaken in accordance with time and target.

The Assistant Research Facilitator will be expected to support the work of the Research Delivery Network (RDN) and monitor progress and recruitment into those studies. They will need to ensure that research is facilitated and approved efficiently and rapidly in line with NIHR objectives for study set-up.

The post holder will work alongside other facilitator posts, supervising the work of administrators as required, and playing a key role in supporting the work of the research office team.

Reporting to the Research Governance Specialist, the post holder will:

Work as part of the research office to facilitate increased clinical research activity within KCH and ensure that it complies with the necessary governance and regulatory frameworks for research.
Support the development and delivery of research plans which includes collating all aspects of the clinical trial and ensuring clarity of stakeholder roles and responsibilities. Advise research teams on the NIHR metrics, timelines and process which will be undertaken by the office before research can begin at KCH.
Review study amendments to determine local implications and changes to finance and resource requirements

Generate data reports and presentations for senior research meetings.
Assist in the production of standard operating procedures and work instructions to support the facilitation processes for research.
Identify barriers to research and team performance and continually consider and implement service/process improvements.
Oversee the process of review and issue of Research Passports and Letters of Access for external researchers wishing to conduct research in the Trust.
Arrange and provide administrative support for meetings, including minute taking, preparing agendas and following up actions, compiling and distributing papers, booking meeting rooms and arranging catering, providing travel directions and acting as the first point of contact for members regarding meeting arrangements and attendance. This may require travel to and attendance at meetings at different locations within KCH, and other Trusts.
