About The Role

We are seeking a qualified lawyer with experience in regulatory law to join our UK Legal team at a pivotal time for the energy industry. As the UK accelerates towards its net zero ambitions, the demand for new energy infrastructure is growing at an unprecedented pace, bringing with it increasingly complex and high-profile regulatory challenges.

In this role, you will provide expert legal advice to National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) on a broad range of strategically important regulatory matters, helping to shape and support the evolving regulatory framework that underpins the UK's energy transition.

Working closely with colleagues across the UK Legal, Regulatory and wider business teams, you will play a key role in enabling critical projects and business objectives. You will advise on a diverse portfolio of regulatory issues, translating complex legal matters into clear, practical guidance for stakeholders at all levels.

While previous energy sector experience is not essential, we are looking for someone with a genuine interest in the sector, a passion for supporting the UK's net zero journey, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. What You'll Do

Provide expert legal advice on NGET's regulatory framework, licence obligations, and evolving industry requirements, helping the business navigate complex regulatory challenges and make informed decisions.
Partner with colleagues across Legal, Regulatory, Customer Connections, and wider business teams to deliver practical, commercially focused advice that supports strategic objectives and major infrastructure projects.
Engage with key external stakeholders, including Ofgem, Government departments, and external legal advisers, supporting regulatory submissions, consultations, investigations, appeals, and policy development activities.
Identify, assess, and advise on regulatory risks and emerging legislative changes, ensuring potential impacts are understood and managed effectively while helping to shape National Grid's approach to regulatory compliance.
Produce clear and accessible legal guidance, including briefing notes, presentations, and training materials, enabling colleagues across the business to understand and respond confidently to regulatory developments.
Collaborate closely with the wider UK Legal team, sharing knowledge and expertise, contributing to cross-functional projects, and supporting a broad range of legal matters across the National Grid group as opportunities arise.

About You

A qualified Solicitor or Barrister with experience in regulatory or competition law gained within private practice, an in-house legal team, or a combination of both. Whilst we anticipate candidates may have around 2+ years' PQE, we welcome applications from talented individuals at all stages of their legal career.
An excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills, able to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical advice for a range of stakeholders.
A collaborative and proactive professional who enjoys building strong relationships, working as part of a team, and partnering with colleagues across a diverse and fast-paced business environment.
Well-organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure.
Experience within a regulated industry would be beneficial but is not essential. We will provide comprehensive training on NGET's regulatory framework, so we're equally interested in candidates who bring transferable regulatory expertise and a willingness to learn.

This role is offered on a full time basis.
Based in London or Warwick, with hybrid working and visits to different sites for colloboration.
