Job Overview
The Business Development Manager will develop new revenue opportunities across consumer, wholesale and commercial markets. The successful candidate will identify prospective business customers, establish partnerships, manage important accounts and support expansion across the United Kingdom and selected international markets.
The position combines client acquisition, commercial negotiation, account development, international market research and sales analysis. The post-holder will work closely with the Director, overseas suppliers, marketplace partners and external organisations to convert market opportunities into measurable revenue.
Duties
- Develop and implement business development plans aligned with company revenue targets.
- Identify and secure new commercial customers, wholesale buyers and strategic partners.
- Develop relationships with independent retailers, gift shops, interior designers, hospitality businesses, property-staging companies, distributors and corporate buyers.
- Negotiate pricing, order volumes, payment terms, delivery arrangements and commercial agreements with customers and partners.
- Research UK and international markets to identify customer trends, competitor activity, product opportunities and potential routes to market.
- Work with overseas suppliers on product availability, commercial terms, lead times, packaging, customisation and market feedback.
- Support expansion across sales platforms and other suitable commercial channels from a revenue and partnership perspective.
- Identify prospective content, retail and distribution partners whose audiences or networks correspond with the company’s product range.
- Represent the company at selected trade fairs, exhibitions, buyer meetings and commercial networking events.
- Use customer, marketplace and sales data to evaluate commercial opportunities and prioritise resources.
- Monitor progress against agreed sales targets and recommend corrective commercial action where performance differs from forecast.
Candidates Should Have:
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in Business, International Business, Marketing, Business Analytics or a related subject.
- Relevant experience in business development, account management, partnerships, commercial marketing or international market expansion.
- Experience identifying prospective clients and developing professional relationships with commercial stakeholders.
- Strong market research, competitor analysis and commercial reporting skills.
- The ability to negotiate commercial terms and present proposals to customers, partners and senior decision-makers.
- Experience of e-commerce, consumer products, online marketplaces or international trade.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Good numerical judgement and the ability to interpret customer, sales and market data.
- Strong organisational and project-management capability.
- Experience of working across international markets, coordinating with overseas suppliers, developing multicultural customer segments or using tools such as Tableau, SQL, SPSS or comparable analytics platforms would be advantageous. Additional language skills relevant to international commercial communication are also welcomed.
Pay: £57,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
