We are a team of five consultants who work collaboratively within a supportive, forward-thinking environment. Our close partnership with our oral and maxillofacial surgery colleagues enables the delivery of well-integrated multidisciplinary care.
We are now seeking to appoint a Consultant Orthodontist to replace a departing colleague and contribute to the next phase of service development. The successful candidate will join a well-established team supported by a Specialty Doctor, two Specialist Registrars, a post-CCST trainee and an orthodontic therapist. Clinical
Orthodontic treatment clinics with exposure to a wide range of complex Orthodontic cases, new patient clinics and undertake supervision of the orthodontic trainees. There will also be an opportunity to attend theatre for the gold chain lists with Associate Specialist and Specialty Doctors in Maxillofacial Surgery.
Shared responsibility with the other Consultants for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and sickness.
Observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff
Together with the other Consultants, work to provide a service for patients referred for treatment and care. This includes all aspects of orthodontic treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.
Leadership
The post holder will support the junior trainees and liaise closely with the nursing staff and consultants.
Active participation in educational half-days, teaching sessions, audit and departmental meetings will be expected.
Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Dental Education and clinical governance initiatives.
Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused on these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.
Work in conjunction with clinical and professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for junior colleagues.
Undertake management duties as agreed with the Clinical Director.
Information and reporting
Undertake research and audit projects to which the appointee will be expected to contribute as well as initiate their own projects
Attend and contribute to regular Departmental and Governance meetings.
Service improvement
To be responsible, with management support, for your personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues.
It is hoped that the appointee will be able to participate in assisting other staff members in reaching Trust targets by undertaking additional programmed activities
