Full job description

Job Overview
Our client, a school in the Sevenoaks area is looking to appoint a health and safety officer to oversee and promote a safe working environment across their organisation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing health and safety policies, conducting risk assessments, carry out weekly checks and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

· This is a part-time role suitable for a health and safety officer wanting to work two to three days a week.

· The ideal working hours are between 11:00 to 19:00 but there is room for flexibility.

· Free lunch

-Enhanced DBS Check Required – or a clean criminal record with no restrictions to work around children / students.

Responsibilities

Carry out weekly checks (Fire alarm testing, water flushing, fire extinguisher checks, emergency lights testing (flick test), etc.,
Support in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies in accordance with legal requirements and best practices.
Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify potential hazards.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports outlining root causes and corrective actions.
Provide first aid assistance when necessary and ensure first aid kits are well-stocked and accessible.
Deliver health and safety training sessions to staff members to promote awareness and compliance.
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and training activities.
Collaborate with management to develop emergency response procedures and conduct drills regularly.
Analyse incident data to identify trends and recommend improvements for safer working practices.

Experience

Proven experience in a health and safety role within a similar industry or environment.
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards applicable in the UK.
Experience in report writing, documenting investigations, and preparing comprehensive safety reports.
Demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis effectively to prevent future incidents.
First aid certification is essential; additional qualifications in occupational health or safety management are desirable (IOSH or NEBOSH)
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently. This position offers an engaging opportunity for professionals committed to safeguarding workplace wellbeing while contributing positively to organisational culture.
