The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to further your career in archives at a world-leading university.

As an Assistant Archivist at University of the Arts London (UAL) you will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of student-focused archives and museum services that support teaching and learning through the preservation of our digital collections.

Supported by the Archives and Special Collections Centre Assistant Manager, you will contribute to the activities of the Archives and Special Collections Centre. You will achieve this by:

Providing access to individual users, both in person and remotely via answering email enquiries
Developing and delivering group teaching sessions using archival collections, including academic support, inductions and tailored sessions for specific university courses as well as external universities and interest groups and placement students
Contributing to ongoing collections management activity including cataloguing and repackaging material, in support of the planned move in 2027
Contributing to outreach activities, including creating posts for blog and social media
Supporting curatorial activity through contributing to internal displays and preparing material for internal and external loan

The post-holder will be based at London College of Communication, within the University’s Archives and Special Collections Centre. Please be advised that onsite working will be the main focus for this role, your working pattern will be discussed, to meet operational requirements of the Archives & Special Collections Centre.

Your profile

We are looking for an organized and committed individual with a UK accredited postgraduate qualification in Archives and Records Management, or equivalent experience of working in an archive.

You will have demonstrable experience of applying international archives and collections care standards to manage and catalogue archives and collections.

You will have experience of providing access to archives and collections, both to individual users and through developing and delivering group sessions using archives to inspire and educate.

The ability to work well independently, as well as part of a team, is also essential.

Demonstrable experience of using Axiell CALM cataloguing software is desirable.
