Full job description

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join Gordon Moody, supporting individuals experiencing gambling-related harms through specialist assessment, low-intensity psychological interventions, and recovery-focused care.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence-based interventions to individuals affected by gambling harms, helping them develop effective coping strategies, improve emotional wellbeing, and build sustainable recovery. You will deliver structured guided self-help interventions, psychoeducational programmes, and brief therapeutic support across both residential and remote treatment services.

The successful candidate will work within professional guidelines and the overall framework of Gordon Moody's clinical governance, policies, and procedures, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, psychologically informed and trauma-informed care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals experiencing gambling-related harms, identifying psychological, social, and recovery needs.
Deliver evidence-based low-intensity interventions, including guided self-help and psychoeducational approaches informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Support service users in developing personalised wellbeing and recovery plans.
Facilitate psychoeducational, wellbeing, relapse prevention, and recovery-focused group programmes.
Support individuals presenting with common mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional distress.
Monitor service user progress and outcomes using agreed clinical measures and recovery goals.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with organisational, professional, and GDPR requirements.
Identify and appropriately respond to risk, safeguarding concerns, and service user wellbeing needs.
Promote self-management, resilience, and engagement with ongoing recovery support services.

Multidisciplinary & Partnership Working:

Work collaboratively with therapists, recovery workers, support staff, and external professionals to support positive outcomes for service users.
Liaise with GPs, mental health services, social care teams, and partner agencies to ensure continuity of care.
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and service discussions.
Support effective referral pathways and integrated recovery planning.
Promote psychologically informed and trauma-informed approaches throughout the service.

Clinical Governance & Service Development:

Participate in regular clinical supervision, reflective practice, and continuing professional development.
Contribute to service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support the development of evidence-based practice within gambling harm treatment services.
Maintain awareness of developments within psychological well-being, behavioural addiction, and mental health services.
Adhere to all safeguarding, information governance, and organisational policies.
Contribute to the ongoing development of therapeutic and recovery programmes.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) with a recognised PWP qualification.
Registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS) or BABCP PWP Register, where applicable.
Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

Additional training in motivational interviewing, behavioural addictions, trauma-informed practice, or group facilitation.
Further training in mental health, wellbeing, or addiction recovery interventions.

Essential Experience:

Experience delivering low-intensity psychological interventions within mental health, wellbeing, or addiction services.
Experience in undertaking assessments and developing collaborative support plans.
Experience facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups.
Experience supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, or emotional difficulties.
Ability to manage risk and any safeguarding concerns appropriately.
Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience:

Experience working within gambling harms, addiction, or behavioural addiction services.
Experience supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health and addiction-related needs.
Experience delivering remote or digital interventions.
Experience working within residential treatment, community recovery, or third-sector services.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

Knowledge of low-intensity CBT-based interventions and guided self-help approaches.
Understanding of common mental health difficulties, including anxiety and depression.
Understanding of gambling-related harms and recovery-focused support models.
Knowledge of motivational interviewing and relapse prevention principles.
Strong risk assessment and safeguarding awareness.
Excellent communication, engagement, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage emotionally challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to maintain accurate clinical records and outcome measures.

Desirable:

Awareness of current developments in behavioural addiction and gambling harm treatment.
Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and psychologically informed environments.
