Full job description

Overview

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Cashier / Sales Assistant to join our retail team. In this role, you will provide excellent customer service, process transactions efficiently, and support sales through effective merchandising and product recommendations.

This is a paid position offering an excellent opportunity to gain valuable retail experience in a dynamic and supportive environment. We especially welcome applications from school leavers and young people who are eager to learn, develop new skills, and earn while building their work experience. Volunteer opportunities are also available for those seeking retail experience.

Key Responsibilities

Welcome customers warmly and provide outstanding customer service.
Process cash, card, and other payment transactions accurately, including refunds and exchanges.
Maintain clean, organised, and visually appealing merchandise displays.
Recommend products and promotions to enhance the customer shopping experience and support sales.
Provide accurate information about products and services and respond to customer enquiries professionally.
Keep the checkout area clean, organised, and well-stocked throughout each shift.
Monitor stock levels on the shop floor and report low inventory to management.
Answer telephone enquiries professionally and courteously.
Assist with promotional events, seasonal displays, and sales campaigns as required.
Support the team with general store duties to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Skills & Requirements

Friendly, positive, and professional attitude with a strong commitment to customer service.
Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages (such as Spanish) are an advantage.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Basic numeracy skills and confidence in handling cash and electronic payments.
Strong time management skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to recommend products and promotions in a helpful, customer-focused manner.
Good merchandising skills with an eye for attractive product presentation.
Professional telephone manner and confidence in handling customer enquiries.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Previous retail or customer service experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training can be provided.
