Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated BSL (British Sign Language) Interpreter to join our team. The successful candidate will facilitate effective communication between BSL users and English speakers across various settings. Duties
- Provide accurate and confidential BSL interpretation between clients and English speakers in real-time
- Facilitate communication during meetings, appointments, events, and other engagements
- Assist with translation of documents or written materials when required
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality at all times
- Collaborate with organisations to understand specific communication needs
- Utilise appropriate technology for remote interpretation sessions when necessary
- Keep records of interpreted sessions in accordance with organisational policies
Experience
- Proven experience as a BSL Interpreter or similar role specialising in British Sign Language
- Multilingual skills are advantageous, particularly proficiency in English alongside BSL
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey messages clearly and accurately
- Demonstrated proficiency in translation and interpretation within diverse settings
- Excellent organisational skills, including efficient typing abilities for documentation purposes
- Familiarity with relevant codes of conduct and ethical standards for interpreters
- Previous experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds is desirable
