Poultry Vet
Poultry Health Services, Sutton Bonington, Loughborough
We have an exciting opportunity to join us at Poultry Health Services -one of the largest dedicated commercial poultry and game bird practices in the UK.
No previous experience in poultry is required as full training and support will be provided so this role could be ideal for a vet looking for a change in career direction or a new graduate, for which we can offer an internship.
About us:
Poultry Health Services was founded in 2018, our main practice is Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire with 6 other bases country wide plus two in house laboratories and a biosecurity company within the group.
Our core work is with commercial poultry farms supplying eggs and meat to supermarkets. We also work for poultry genetic companies and offer consultancy to a number of bodies including pharma companies and research institutions.

The Role:
This is a full-time, permanent position, for an RCVS registered vet, based at our Sutton Bonington practice just north of Loughborough.
Working hours are 08.30 – 17.00 Monday to Friday with 1:4 weekends on call after training.
Salary – dependent on experience in other disciplines and qualifications

Duties include:

Diagnostics via post-mortems, farm visits and laboratory work

Routine visits for veterinary health and welfare plans, schemes such as Lion Code and Red Tractor

Surveillance visits for disease outbreaks such as Avian Influenza
-
Occasional export certification
-
Data analysis and epidemiology

Developing relationships with clients and applying innovative approaches to optimise health and welfare
Training and Development:
We are a large, friendly and supportive team. Our experienced vets have a range of post-graduate qualifications and areas of expertise, and you will be allocated a mentor who is VetGDP registered.
Your career development and growth are important to us and CPD is actively encouraged, with at least one international CPD per year. At Poultry Health Services we support applicants that wish to undertake further qualifications.
Could you be our ideal candidate?
Ideally, we’re looking for a vet with post graduate experience as many of your skills are transferable to poultry, and specific poultry medicine training will be given. But we are also open to applications from new and recent grads and can fully support you in your first steps in your professional career.

A little about our team:
At our Sutton Bonington practice, which covers the East Midlands and Lincolnshire, our fabulous team comprises of 2 experienced Vets and 1 part-time Administrator. We work collaboratively and get together for monthly clinical clubs. We’re also a sociable bunch and enjoy attending the occasional BBQ or going out to comedy events.
The Area:
Sutton Bonington is a picturesque village in rural Nottinghamshire, surrounded by open countryside yet close to major towns. There are many local walking and cycling routes plus several parks and nature reserves in the area.
Sutton Bonington is exceptionally well connected for a rural location – just a short distance from Loughborough and Nottingham and with easy access to the M1, A42 and M42. East Midlands Airport is nearby and there are good rail connections from Loughborough.
