We are looking for an experienced and diligent person to join SCB as part of our busy dismantling team. You will be working in our engine and drivetrain "split down" department. This is a hands-on, technically demanding role focused specifically on the dismantling and processing of engines, gearboxes, and associated drivetrain components from a wide variety of vehicles.
You will be responsible for dismantling and processing engines and drivetrain components that have already been removed from vehicles by our dismantling team. You will work from a Dismantling Schedule issued for each vehicle, systematically removing and tagging specified components to the required standard. You will be joining an experienced team of dismantlers and yard staff in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work on engines, gearboxes, differentials, transfer boxes and associated drivetrain components from a wide variety of petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles
- Work methodically from a Dismantling Schedule, removing parts in the correct sequence and to the required standard
- Accurately tag all removed components using the supplied part identification tags
- Carry out pre-strip parts checks where required - inspecting engines, gearboxes, ancillaries and electronic/moving components prior to dismantling
- Ensure all fluids are drained safely and in compliance with environmental regulations prior to component removal
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area at all times
- Operate hand and power tools safely, efficiently and in line with workshop health and safety procedures
- Identify and report any parts of notable condition, damage or value to the supervisor
- Carry out other tasks as required based on the needs of the business
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous hands-on experience working on vehicle engines and drivetrains - in a dismantling, mechanical, or automotive technician capacity
- Solid working knowledge of engine and drivetrain components across a range of vehicle makes and models
- Competent and confident use of both hand and power tools
- Methodical, diligent approach to dismantling - taking care to preserve part condition and value
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Good attention to detail when tagging and processing parts
PLEASE NOTE: All applicants must supply their own tools. Candidates without their own tools will not be considered for this position.
Desirable Skills
- Experience dismantling a broad range of vehicle makes — including European, Japanese and prestige/performance vehicles
- Familiarity with hybrid or electric vehicle high-voltage safety procedures
- Previous forklift experience or training (in-house training can be arranged for the right candidate)
- Experience working in a vehicle recycling or ELV (End of Life Vehicle) environment
