JOB TITLE: DRIVER/MAINTENANCE PERSON/GARDENER
REPORTS TO: Home Manager
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Non-Clinical Co-ordinator
SCOPE OF THE POST
To safely transport Service Users to day service, activities and appointments. To support the needs of the Home in the provision of a wide range of general maintenance services and duties and is expected to adopt a totally flexible approach and attitude to the challenges of the post. All employees are bound by Company Rules and Service Users’ Charter, which are detailed in separate documents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Taking Service Users out where needed (i.e. to Doctor’s appointments/hospital visits, shopping, day trips, holidays etc.)
2. Ensure that Service Users arrive at their destination in a timely manner.
3. Where appropriate, assist in securing wheelchair clamps and applying safety harnesses to Service Users, ensuring Service Users remain seated during transportation. Ensure vehicles are not driven until Service Users are safe, comfortable and secure.
4. Carry out daily inspection of vehicles ensuring road worthiness and cleanliness inside and out.
5. Ensure regular maintenance of the minibus and other Company vehicles e.g. oil, water, tyres etc. Notify the Manager/Non clinical Co-ordinator immediately if you have any concerns regarding the vehicle.
6. Take vehicles for servicing when required, submitting all relevant documents to the Home Manager/Non Clinical Co-ordinator.
7. Liaise with Manager/Non Clinical Co-ordinator or delegated staff member, regarding driving duties and maintenance work to be carried out.
8. Keep the front of the premises clean and tidy with no rubbish/cigarette ends lying around.
9. Maintain the garden as and when required.
10. Ensure that all plant tubs and hanging baskets are watered daily during the summer.
11. Ensure that the lawn is mowed on a regular basis during the summer months.
12. Ensure the exterior areas are kept weed free and clear of any leaves, twigs etc.
13. Clean the guttering of leaves and rubbish.
14. Assist the Maintenance Person to carry out day-to-day maintenance.
General:
15. Be actively involved in fire practices on a regular basis, and to have a full knowledge of the Home’s fire procedures.
16. Keep up to date with relevant training required to carry out the role. Training courses are undertaken on eLearning and face to face.
17. Notify the Home Manager/Non Clinical Co-ordinator or the person in charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
18. To attend staff meetings at least 4 times per annum.
19. Gifts from past or present service users or relatives must not be accepted without the prior consent of the Directors.
20. To adhere to Company Policies and Procedures at all times.
21. To promote at all times the reputation of the Home, and maintain the highest standard of work.
This list is not exhaustive, and you can be asked to perform other duties that may reasonably fall within the scope of this post, as may be required from time to time.

RESPONSIBILITIES IN AN EMERGENCY
Expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of service users and others this includes the ability to assist in evacuation of service users, fire drills and false alarms.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Any information relating to service users or staff acquired during the course of duty must be treated in the strictest confidence and discussed only within the establishment with the most senior member of staff on duty.
The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about service users and staff in accordance with the professional code of conduct and relevant legislation such as Data Protection.

1. Promote safe working practices within the home and ensure the security within the home is maintained at all times.
2. Follow safe working practices whilst carrying our required duties.
3. Adhere to the Homes disposal of waste policy
4. Understand and ensure the implementation of the Homes Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire Procedures.
5. Report to the Home Manager any irreparable faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

Pay: £13.50-£15.50 per hour
