Diagnostic Technician Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Diagnostic Technician to join our friendly, family-run business. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving, and carrying out extensive mechanical repairs to a high standard.
The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing complex vehicle faults, carrying out repairs and maintenance across a wide range of makes and models, and ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently. An MOT Licence would be advantageous but is not essential.

Responsibilities
- Carry out advanced vehicle diagnostics using manufacturer and aftermarket diagnostic equipment.
- Identify and rectify complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
- Perform extensive repairs on engines, transmissions, suspension, braking systems, and other vehicle components.
- Conduct routine servicing and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Read and interpret technical information, wiring diagrams, and vehicle schematics.
- Repair or replace faulty parts while ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards.
- Carry out vehicle inspections and road tests to verify repairs.
- Complete MOT testing where qualified (if applicable).
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and parts used.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers regarding repairs and recommendations.
- Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Diagnostic Technician, Vehicle Technician, or similar automotive role.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience carrying out major repairs and complex mechanical work.
- Excellent understanding of modern vehicle systems and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Competent in the use of hand tools, workshop equipment, and specialist diagnostic tools.
- Experience working on German vehicle brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and MINI would be highly advantageous.
- MOT Tester Licence preferred but not essential.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Positive attitude and ability to work effectively within a team.
