As a Rehoming, Education & Welfare Assistant, with a passion for making a difference, you will play a key role in supporting the rescue from slaughter, care and rehoming of thousands of hens each year.
Working as part of a small and dedicated team, you will help coordinate hen rehoming activities across the UK, supporting volunteers, rehomers and members of the public through excellent customer service and compassionate communication. From managing rehoming enquiries and organising collection logistics to supporting hen welfare through working on our Hen Helpline or in person at Hen Central, this is a varied and rewarding role.
You will also provide advice and guidance to rehomers, assist with operational administration, support fundraising and project work, and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of rehoming activities. Alongside this, you will contribute to maintaining high welfare standards for hens in residence and support preparations for rehoming days.

Job Purpose
The Rehoming, Education & Welfare Assistant will work as part of a small team to support the smooth management and coordination of hen re-homing activities, providing excellent customer service to supporters, volunteers and re-homers, while supporting operational administration and logistics across the organisation.
Main Responsibilities
· Work under instruction of Volunteer and Operations Manager to ensure smooth management of hen re-homing.
· Deal with calls from members of the public contacting to register to re-home ex commercial laying hens via email and phone in a polite, friendly and comprehensive manner.
· Input of accurate data into Salesforce CRM system
· Manage a regional list from hen offer to confirmation
· General advice and screening of public for suitability as re-homers
· Hen Helpline - helping with issues with the health and behaviour of hens, with associated training as required
· Assisting with the cleaning and upkeep of vans and rehoming areas at Hen Central following rehoming events, alongside supporting the care and welfare of hens in residence and carrying out associated duties as required
· Offering advice on general hen husbandry (following training)
· Providing a reception function – answering and/or dealing with as first response all incoming calls
· Working both independently and as part of the team to organise hen collection logistics and handle all aspects of hen collection including mass emails
· Liaising with BHWT volunteers across the country where required
· Assistance with preparation for re-homing days and tidying up and cleaning crates following re-homing days
· Assistance in caring for hens waiting to be rehomed at Hen Central
· Assistance with the preparation of in-house guidelines on Salesforce processes
· Assist in shop administration
· Advice Line administration
· Ad hoc fundraising assistance
· Ad hoc project work
· Any other duties as reasonably required
