Full job description

Drum Teacher – Music Learning Collective Derby

We are looking for a Drum Teacher to join our team for a permanent, part-time, face-to-face teaching position on Saturdays. We already have 4–5 hours of students ready and waiting for a September start, with lessons delivered across 42 pre-set Saturdays per year at our Derby teaching centre (DE23 2FS). The ability to teach additional instruments would be advantageous.

Music Learning Collective Derby provides high-quality instrumental tuition to students of all ages and abilities. Alongside the Saturday timetable, there may be opportunities to build additional work during the week at our partner schools and other teaching locations. Many tutors have gone on to develop substantial teaching portfolios with us across multiple sites.

Requirements

Able to travel to our Derby teaching centre each Saturday (DE23 2FS)
Confident teaching drums to at least Grade 5 standard
Strong communication skills and confidence working with children and adults
Good understanding of music theory
Grade 8-level playing ability preferred
Ability to teach additional instruments is a bonus
Enhanced DBS check and right to work in the UK

Other Details

Self-employed contract position
£18–£22+ per hour depending on experience and responsibilities
42 teaching Saturdays per year (pre-set calendar)
Teaching equipment provided
No room rental or advertising costs
Training and mentoring available for the right candidate

We are particularly interested in enthusiastic, reliable and personable musicians with strong performance skills and a passion for helping students progress. Teaching experience is welcomed but attitude, communication skills and musical ability are equally important.

Are you able to play any other instruments other than your first? If so, what approximate grade level would you put yourself at? (You may wish to check current RSL Awards, ABRSM or Trinity Syllabi to help answer this question).

Which is your main instrument for which you are applying to teach?
Do you have any valid experience with children - especially primary aged?

A-Level or equivalent (preferred)
