NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) plans and buys healthcare services to meet the needs of the 2 million people living in Kent and Medway. We are focused on providing the best possible care for the whole county.
We are forming a fundamentally different kind of organisation. As a strategic commissioner, our purpose is not merely to oversee services but to reshape the health and care system in active partnership—improving outcomes, tackling inequalities, delivering better value, and building long-term resilience for our populations.
Aligned with the model Integrated Care Board (ICB) blueprint, we will act as a system convenor, architect, and steward. We are moving away from transactional oversight and towards transformational, values-led leadership—guiding the future of health and care across our geography.
As a full voting member of the unitary board, the Chief Medical and Outcomes Officer will have an influential executive role and shared accountability for the delivery of the ICS five year Vision. They will (along with the Chief Nursing, Experience and Quality Officer) be accountable for providing high quality clinical and professional leadership of the ICB’s activities.
This role provides a unique opportunity to make transformational differences for our local population, inspiring colleagues to transform care. You will bring vision and innovation, guiding us as we continue to improve and evolve to meet the needs of the people we serve. In return, you will join a collaborative and dynamic leadership team that values compassion, development, and learning.
We are committed to a culture that supports all staff at NHS Kent and Medway to be the best version of themselves.
Our ability to improve outcomes for our population depends on how effectively clinical, operational, financial and strategic professionals work together to make informed commissioning decisions. That’s why our workforce works a minimum of two days-a-week on-site, with the expectation that all one-to-ones are held face-to-face and that colleagues will regularly visit the services we are commissioning to understand more about them.
We believe regular on-site working supports stronger collaboration, faster problem-solving, peer learning, visible leadership and the integration of colleagues into our organisation. We also know that culture is built through shared experiences and day-to-day interactions.
We are a flexible working friendly organisation; we aim to support you to work flexibly in a way that will suit you and us.
We work with staff to agree objectives through regular supervision, annual appraisal and access to training opportunities.
We are committed to equal opportunities and diversity. In order to reflect the diversity of our population, we positively encourage applications from all areas of the community regardless of gender, race, faith, disability, age or sexual orientation.
