Job Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Underwriter to join our dynamic team within the financial services sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and evaluating risks associated with potential clients and policies, ensuring sound decision-making aligned with company standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in finance, banking, or accounting to utilise their expertise in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Duties

Conduct detailed risk analysis by reviewing applicant information, financial statements, and relevant documentation.
Utilise quantitative analysis techniques to assess the probability of claims and determine appropriate policy terms.
Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers or clients to reach mutually beneficial agreements while maintaining risk appetite.
Analyse financial data, including mathematical models, to support underwriting decisions.
Collaborate with sales teams and other departments to develop customised insurance solutions.
Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Monitor existing policies for potential risk changes and recommend adjustments as necessary.
Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging risks affecting underwriting practices.

Requirements

Proven experience in risk analysis within financial services, banking, or insurance sectors.
Strong skills in negotiation, quantitative analysis, and mathematical reasoning.
Knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement interpretation.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to evaluate complex data efficiently.
Familiarity with underwriting software and tools is desirable.
A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, or related fields is preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Attention to detail coupled with strong analytical thinking capabilities.
