Location: Salford
Reports to: Service Manager
Pay: £14.38-£15.10 /h
Hours: Full-time

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centered housing-related support to adults living in supported accommodation, including individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance misuse recovery (drug & alcohol), survivors of domestic abuse, and ex-offenders.

The Housing Support Worker will work in a trauma-informed, strengths-based way to promote independence, stability, and long-term recovery while ensuring residents maintain their tenancy and achieve positive life outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Support & Case Management

Provide tailored, person-centred support plans based on individual needs and risk assessments.
Support clients with mental health needs in line with recovery-focused approaches.
Assist individuals in drug and alcohol recovery to maintain engagement with treatment services.
Support survivors of domestic abuse to rebuild independence and safety.
Work with ex-offenders to reduce reoffending through structured support and partnership working.
Complete regular support sessions and maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
Support clients in developing life skills including budgeting, cooking, self-care, and managing appointments.
Assist with accessing external services including healthcare, employment, education, and legal advice.

Tenancy & Housing Management

Support clients to understand licence agreements and their responsibilities.
Promote service charge payment compliance and prevent arrears.
Conduct welfare checks and property visits as required.
Report maintenance concerns and ensure properties are safe and well maintained.

Safeguarding & Risk Management

Work in a trauma-informed manner, understanding the impact of adverse life experiences.
Identify, assess, and manage risks appropriately.
Follow safeguarding procedures to protect vulnerable adults.
Manage challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.
Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

Multi-Agency Working

Work collaboratively with external agencies such as mental health teams, substance misuse services, probation services, and domestic abuse services.
Attend case reviews, multi-agency meetings, and court hearings where required.

Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate support logs and reports.
Use internal systems to record outcomes and progress.
Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification Essential

Experience working with vulnerable adults, including those with mental health needs, substance misuse issues, domestic abuse experience, or offending history.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and person-centered support.
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk assessment.
Ability to manage a caseload and work independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.

Desirable

Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care.
Experience within supported housing or homelessness services.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system and probation services.
Training in Mental Health First Aid, substance misuse awareness, or domestic abuse support.
