The Renters’ Rights Advice service plays an important role in helping Manchester respond to changes in the private rented sector and support both residents and landlords at risk of housing issues escalating.
This role sits at the front end of that work, providing early, practical support so situations can be addressed quickly and fairly.
It’s a fast-paced, hands-on role where no two days look the same. You’ll deal with a range of enquiries, supporting tenants at risk of losing their home as well as working with landlords and agents to resolve issues early. The focus is on early intervention, problem solving and preventing issues from escalating into homelessness or more complex disputes.

If you’re successful, you’ll join a new team focused on early intervention and prevention. Your role will be key in identifying housing risks early, providing clear advice, and helping to stabilise situations before they escalate.
By stepping in at the right time, you’ll help prevent avoidable homelessness, support better outcomes across the private rented sector, and reduce pressure on statutory services. You’ll also play an important role in shaping how the service develops, making sure it remains practical, responsive and adds real value across the wider homelessness system.

Essential requirements for the role:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly and support people in sensitive or challenging situations
- Good problem solving and decision-making skills, able to assess housing risk and identify appropriate next steps
- Analytical skills, with the ability to gather and use information from different sources to inform decisions
- Ability to plan and organise work effectively, managing competing priorities and working at pace
- Confident using ICT systems and maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records
- Experience working in housing, homelessness, advice or a similar customer‑focused environment
- Ability to apply guidance or legislation in a practical, real‑world way
Desirable requirements that would be useful in this role:
- Experience working in the private rented sector, with tenants, landlords or letting agents.
- Knowledge or understanding of housing legislation, including the Renters’ Rights Act
- Experience of early intervention, crisis response or stabilising urgent situations
- Experience working across services or with partner organisations
