Role Overview
Responsible for managing the England Payroll Team ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for c.2,500 colleagues across 10 hourly and a further c.100 colleagues across one salaried payroll. Reporting to the Group Payroll Manager, the role ensure compliance with statutory regulations, internal policies and payroll best practices while supporting continuous improvement across payroll operations.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead a team of four to process payroll for c.2,500 hourly paid staff across 10 payrolls for Ivolve’s England division and c.100 colleagues via a salaried payroll
- Lead, coach and develop the payroll team members, ensuring training needs are identified and addressed and clear objectives set for each person and provide technical guidance to support them day to day
- Support the Group Payroll Manager with other payroll functions including ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, tax laws, pensions and statutory requirements. This will also include preparing reporting such as gender pay gap and PSA reporting
- Maintain up to date knowledge of payroll legislation and implement necessary changes to the payroll process to accommodate these
- Review and reconcile payroll outputs to ensure accuracy, ensuring all necessary approvals are obtained in line with Ivolve’s delegated authority policy before payment is processed
- Ensure all liability payments are met by the deadline date
- Resolve payroll queries for colleagues, liaising with them directly on resolution with compassion and empathy
- Analyse payroll data for trends and errors and produce reports as required
- Support audits (internal and external) and ensure proper documentation is maintained
- Escalate risks, issues and improvement opportunities to the Group Payroll Manager
- Collaborate with other internal departments to enhance data accuracy, including building good relationships with the People and Operations teams
- Work closely with the IT team and external partners to maintain and optimise payroll systems and processes, testing new functionality and providing feedback on issues
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency and accuracy improvements in the payroll processes and implement these
- Support payroll system implementations or upgrades where required
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience managing payroll operations in a medium to large organisation
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Experience supervising or managing a payroll team
- Experience with payroll systems
- Excellent communication skills at all levels of the organisation
Desirable:
- CIPP qualification
- Exposure to P11d, payrolling benefits and PSA reporting
