School and College Liaison Officer

Downing College is seeking a full-time School and College Liaison Officer to join the Tutorial and Admissions Team. The postholder will be required to represent the College when interacting with schools in relation to access and widening participation, especially in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, and must be willing/able to travel to schools and events in these areas, and more widely, if required, across the UK.
The work has a significant volume of administrative tasks and requires working to very strict deadlines. The role therefore requires a high level of organisational and administrative multitasking skills, including the ability to plan, prepare, and run a number of activities and events - both in person and online, produce reports and prepare and present statistics during the course of the year. The role also requires the postholder to oversee the appointment, training and oversight of Student Ambassadors.

The College’s aim is to help all students to develop their academic ability and personal potential during their time here. Our annual intake of undergraduate students is currently in the region of 135 and we have approximately 1000 undergraduate and postgraduate students on our roll at the current time. The College is also composed of approximately 57 Fellows and 210 non-academic staff. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and informal community for Fellows, staff and students alike.
The Tutorial and Admissions Office at Downing College is an excellent pathway to a career in University administration. The work in the Tutorial & Admissions Office involves engaging with various partners across the University. The Tutorial and Admissions Team is responsible for providing a professional, comprehensive and supportive tutorial and admissions service for the College. As part of this remit, the members of the team are responsible for dealing with both undergraduate and postgraduate admissions, all tutorial matters and providing administrative support to undergraduates, postgraduates, supervisors, Directors of Studies and Tutors. The Senior Tutor, Professor Guy Williams, is responsible to the Governing Body for all aspects of the educational and welfare provision of the College. The administrative team is led by the Academic Registrar.
Details of the role
The role of School and College Liaison Officer is a for a one-year fixed term post, with the possibility to apply to extend for a further year. Applications are invited from candidates who wish to work on a full-time basis, equivalent to 36.25 hours per week.
There may be a need to work additional hours or on occasional weekends.
The successful applicant, if not available to start immediately, would be required to engage in a number of events and training days prior to taking up the post.
The salary for this role is £29,180 per annum (Step 35 on the College Salary Scale).
With regard to holidays, candidates should note that it is normal practice for these to be taken outside of Full Term when possible. It would also not be expected for the postholder to take any holiday when involved in the UG Admissions process, normally from October to December.
