Inspire the next generation of midwives. Transform lives through education.
At Canterbury Christ Church University, we believe education has the power to change lives, not only for our students, but for the communities they serve. As part of our Vision 2030, we are committed to being a deeply connected, compassionate and inclusive university, working collaboratively to improve health outcomes and create meaningful impact.
We are now looking for a passionate and dedicated midwife to join us as a Lecturer in Midwifery, someone who is ready to bring their expertise, enthusiasm and values into the classroom, the clinical environment, and the wider community.
In this role, you will become part of a supportive and ambitious academic team, contributing to a dynamic portfolio of midwifery education that spans pre-registration, post-registration and apprenticeship programmes. Your teaching will not simply deliver knowledge but inspire, challenge and empower students to become compassionate, capable and reflective practitioners.
You will work closely with students throughout their journey, acting as a Personal Academic Tutor and Academic Assessor, offering guidance, encouragement and constructive challenge as they develop both academically and professionally. Beyond the classroom, your influence will extend into practice settings, where you will help to nurture high-quality learning environments, strengthen partnerships and support those who guide our students in clinical practice.
Your voice will also help shape the future of the curriculum itself. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to the ongoing development of programmes that are innovative, inclusive and responsive to the evolving needs of maternity services and the communities we serve. Alongside this, you will be encouraged to engage in research, scholarship and knowledge exchange, ensuring your practice remains current, impactful and evidence based.
This is a role that extends beyond teaching. It is about building relationships, fostering belonging and championing student success. You will help welcome future midwives into the profession by contributing to outreach, recruitment and community engagement activities, reflecting our strong civic mission and commitment to widening participation.
We are seeking someone who is not only professionally credible, with current NMC registration as a midwife and a strong foundation of clinical experience, but who is also committed to the values that underpin our university: respect, compassion, collaboration and a belief in the potential of every learner.
You will hold an honours degree in Midwifery and post registration qualifications in NIPE and PMA.
At Canterbury Christ Church University, you will find more than a job. You will find a community of colleagues who are passionate about making a difference, who value each other’s contributions, and who are united by a shared purpose: to transform lives through education, research and practice. Whether you are an experienced educator or looking to take your first steps into academia, we will support you to grow as a teacher, and scholar in your field.
If you are ready to inspire the next generation of midwives—and to make a lasting impact on families and communities—we would love to hear from you.
How will you work?
We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible. Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and across the year but must purposefully align to the service being delivered and to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that the majority of your working time will be spent on campus.
