We're looking for a motivated, organised and detail-oriented Publishing Assistant to join our friendly production team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in publishing, journalism or media, working on magazines that make a real difference to local communities.
About the Role
As Publishing Assistant, you'll play a key role in helping our magazines progress from planning through to publication. Working closely with our Editorial, Design and Administration teams, you'll ensure deadlines are met, content is accurate, and our digital platforms remain up to date.
This an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, organisation and working as part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating and maintaining magazine page plans.
- Coordinate with Editorial, Graphics and Administration teams throughout the production process.
- Proofread editorial content and advertisements, ensuring accuracy, consistency and high editorial standards.
- Suggest improvements to page layouts and presentation where appropriate.
- Prepare digital editions for publication, including tagging magazines and checking links.
- Update business listings and content across our websites.
- Publish online-exclusive articles and ensure website content remains current and relevant.
- Support the wider publishing team with production and administrative tasks as required.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised with excellent time management skills.
- Confident managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
- An excellent communicator with outstanding written English, grammar and punctuation.
- Meticulous, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced publishing environment.
- Positive, proactive and keen to learn.
- Able to use initiative as well as work effectively within a team.
Desirable Skills
While not essential, it would be advantageous if you have experience with:
- Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Blogging or digital publishing
- Website content management
- Basic SEO principles
- Social media content
