Full job description

A radiotherapy practitioner working as part of a Radiotherapy team under the supervision of Senior Radiographers, rotating throughout the department to planning and delivering radiotherapy treatment using highly specialist equipment. Providing information, education and emotional support to patients and carers during their radiotherapy episode.

The department provides clinical placements for student radiographers, and the post holder will be expected to participate fully in the training and mentoring of students.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Clinical Technical

Demonstrates safe & effective practice in the planning, delivery and on-treatment verification processes (in- vivo dosimetry, image acquisition and analysis) of radiotherapy.

Evaluate results of these processes and take appropriate action in line with department procedures

Operate Radiotherapy equipment delivering treatment safely and accurately within the tolerances defined for the technique.

Records all activities carefully, and accurately consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.

Understands and undertakes role as Operator under IR(ME)R

Identify and undertake appropriate pre-treatment processes including
a) patient scheduli
b) calculation of radiation treatment prescriptions/plan
c) data inpu
d) transfer of image
e) collation of all treatment accessories and requirements prior to the patients first visit

Document all mandatory patient IRMER statements, e.g., pregnancy status and laterality. Evaluate and respond appropriately to information given.

Ensure that all patient setup information is recorded accurately and unambiguously.

Maintain competencies to undertake treatment planning for simple non planned treatment volumes using Raystation TPS.

Undertake appropriate treatment unit and CT quality assurance checks reporting any faults in errors in line with department/Trust policies.

To undertake ‘Out of Hours’ and ‘On-Call’ duties, including bank holidays to support full-service delivery.

To work flexible shift patterns to meet patient and service needs.
