Full job description

Welder

Salary: £38,000 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30 (30‑minute unpaid lunch)

Contract Type: Full‑time, permanent

Job Purpose

The Welder will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components and structures using a range of welding techniques. The role supports the engineering team to ensure high‑quality, safe, and compliant welded products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan welding operations.
Set up welding equipment, tools, and materials for each job.
Perform MIG, TIG, and arc welding on a variety of metals including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
Fabricate and assemble metal components using cutting, grinding, shaping, and finishing tools.
Inspect welds and completed assemblies to ensure compliance with quality standards and tolerances.
Carry out repairs and modifications to existing metal structures, frames, and machinery parts.
Operate workshop machinery such as saws, grinders, drills, and presses as required.
Follow health and safety procedures, including PPE use, safe handling of materials, and maintaining a clean working environment.
Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to meet project deadlines and resolve technical issues.
Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any defects or issues identified.
The Company may from time to time require you to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the Company on a short term basis e.g. holiday or sickness cover.

Required Skills and Experience

Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator in a workshop or industrial environment.
Competence in MIG, TIG, and arc welding techniques.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Strong understanding of metal properties, welding symbols, and fabrication processes.
Good knowledge of health and safety regulations relating to welding and fabrication.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Desirable Skills

Experience with CNC machinery, plasma cutters, or automated welding systems.
Formal welding qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or coded welding certificates).
Experience working in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial maintenance environments.
