The Role

Drive clear, confident and impactful external communications for a world‑class business school.
London Business School is looking for a Head of External Communication. Reporting to the Chief Communication Officer, this senior role is responsible for setting and delivering a clear, consistent and impactful external communications strategy that strengthens the School’s reputation, supports its strategic priorities and enhances its global profile.

You will oversee media relations, public relations and wider stakeholder communications, act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, and lead the School’s response to reputational issues and crises.

Main Responsibilities

Lead theexternal communications function, including media relations, publicrelationsand stakeholder communications
Develop and deliver an annual external communications strategy aligned to theSchool’svision and priorities
Provide senior counsel on reputation management, issues handling and crisis communications
Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all external channels and audiences
Oversee the Dean’s external communications, working closely with senior stakeholders
Manage relationships with PR agencies, including tendering, onboarding and performance management
Lead,coachand develop a high‑performing external communications team
Manage budgets,resourcesand governance to ensure effective delivery and value for money

Who we are looking for

A senior communications professional withsignificant experiencein external communications,mediaor public relations
Proven ability to advise and influence senior leaders in complex, high‑profile environments
Strong strategic judgement, with experience managing reputation and crisis communications
An experienced people leader witha track recordof building and developing high‑performing teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong stakeholder management capability
Commercially astute, with experience managing budgets and external agencies
Experience in large, complex organisations; higher education experience is desirable but not essential

At London Business School, we support Smart Working - a hybrid approach designed to help you achieve a healthy work-life balance while delivering the best outcomes for your role and the needs of our customers. All roles require a minimum of two days on campus each week to foster a vibrant, collaborative community.

For this role specifically, you will be expected to be on campus 2 days per week.

We operate with ‘core hours’ – 10:00-15:00 – to maximise opportunities for connection and collaboration across teams during the working day. Outside of these hours, you may still be required for meetings or collaboration based on your role and customer needs. Additionally, we offer Protected Time - a flexible, one-hour slot, within the working week dedicated to your learning and development, wellbeing, or focused, quiet work
