Job Title: Assistant Maintenance Engineer

Location: Armthorpe, Doncaster, UK

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £27,000 – £32,000 per year (depending on experience and qualifications)

Hours: Regular day shifts with weekend overtime available

We are a leading food manufacturing facility based in the Armthorpe, Doncaster, supplying high-quality products to major wholesalers and restaurant groups nationwide. We pride ourselves on our commitment to quality, fast-paced innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious Assistant Maintenance Engineer to join our busy engineering and maintenance team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will work alongside experienced multi-skilled engineers to maintain, repair, and optimize high-speed processing and packaging machinery. This is a hands-on role with a clear pathway for career progression.

Key Responsibilities

Reactive & Planned Maintenance: Assist with breakdowns and routine PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) to minimise plant downtime.
Continuous Improvement: Help identify machinery faults and support projects to improve production efficiency.
Compliance: Ensure all engineering tasks strictly adhere to site health, safety, and food hygiene regulations (e.g., GMP, HACCP).
Equipment: Work with conveyors, packaging machines, and automated processing lines.

What We’re Looking For

Desirable Qualifications:

GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above)
Level 2 qualification or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or a related subject

Experience:

Some hands-on experience within manufacturing, general labouring, assembly or mechanical setting
Previous food manufacturing, packaging or FMCG experience would be highly preferred

Personal Qualities:

A proactive, "can-do" attitude
Good practical and problem-solving skills
Strong desire to learn and develop multi-skilled abilities
Reliable and hardworking
Able to work independently and as part of a team
