Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Specialty Doctor in adolescent in patient psychiatry at Serenity Path Hospital, a general adolescent unit which also treats eating disorders. The Children and Family Division consists of a range of specialist inpatient and community services for adolescents and adults, as well as the wider children and family services.
Inpatient specialised services consist of the following:
- Bluebird House - adolescent medium secure hospital, 20 beds, male and female
- Austen House- adolescent low secure hospital with the current development of an Adolescent PICU, 14 beds, male and female
- Serenity Path Hospital - Tier 4 general adolescent unit, 10 beds, male and female

Main duties, tasks & skills required
Specialty Doctors will support the consultant psychiatrist(s) in providing medical input for patients admitted to Serenity Path Hospital ward. They will use their skills and expertise to achieve the best care for service users, with a focus on developing and providing supervision and oversight of the team and the assessment and management of complexity and severity. This includes:
- Carrying out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients. Ensuring evidence-based practice and service user-centred recovery principles to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate all interventions provided by the ward team to promote recovery and independence.
- Support the ward-based staff to manage physical health concerns and psychiatric emergencies.
- Conduct patient reviews and lead multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews and multi -professional meetings.
- Provide verbal and written evidence to Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager's hearings.
- Carry out comprehensive Risk Assessments and participate in Trust's risk management processes. Supporting the MDT in this by clear communication, containing anxiety, and maintaining hope for the patient.
- Managing complex information, make formulations using a biopsychosocial model.
