The role of the Manufacturing Engineer is to ensure that there is clear communication between our production / process engineers and the manufacturing team to ensure that any composite components entering into the production environment match requirements and can be manufactured to the estimated hours. The Manufacturing Engineer is involved at an early stage of the process to ensure the correct tooling choices are discussed and agreed and to ensure compliance with all policy and procedures are maintained during a structured handover into production.
Key Tasks
The continuous improvement of product through the life cycle using lean tools and techniques to maximise efficiency and reduce waste.
- To identify process improvements during the manufacturing cycle in line with SQCDP requirements.
- To lead appropriate RCCA to ensure correct mitigations are applied to reduce repeat non-conformance.
- The assembly and generation of job cards as required until complete production handover is achieved.
- To liaise with production / process engineers to ensure the correct materials are selected for both tooling, covering support fixtures and craft related jigs in support of parts manufacture.
- To work with Production Management to ensure production estimates for hours and materials are both accurate and reflective of current processes.
- To provide additional support to the production teams in writing production planning documentation and updating of process plans.
- To work closely with the production team members to support first-off manufacture and improvement initiatives.
- To attend materials review board meetings and carry out any engineering related actions required to support the production teams.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and qualification in a vocational or specialised field short of degree level i.e. ONC / HNC Mechanical / Production Engineering
- Time served / recognised apprenticeship in related industry / or experienced in a similar role with transferable skills.
Experience & Knowledge
- Experience of working in a complex manufacturing environment
- Experience of working with composite materials or an excellent understanding of the process
- Demonstrable experience of applying decision making and Continuous Improvement skills within a manufacturing environment.
Key Employment Terms
- Salary: £45,000 to £50,000
- Location: Office Based
- Hours: 37hrs/ week, Monday to Friday, half day on a Friday
- Holiday entitlement: 200 hours annual leave plus statutory bank holidays
- Sick pay entitlement after 3 months.
