About the Pankhurst Trust (incorporating Manchester Women's Aid)

The Pankhurst Trust brings together The Pankhurst Centre and Manchester Women's Aid.

We work together to ensure the story of the women who won the vote continues to inspire us all, and to ensure that those experiencing domestic violence and abuse get the confidential help they need. We are a group of female champions, empowering women across Manchester and beyond.

About the Role

As Specialist Domestic Abuse Worker within our Midwifery Domestic Abuse Support Service (MiDASS), you will play an important role in supporting survivors of domestic abuse. Working as part of a specialist team, you will help Midwives to identify signs of domestic abuse, and help them refer patients for specialise support. You will also provide direct 1-1 support to people referred into the service.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues, healthcare professionals and partner agencies to deliver trauma-informed, psychologically informed and survivor-centred support. Alongside direct casework, you will help build knowledge and confidence across Midwifery services through training, partnership working and professional guidance.

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting survivors, building strong professional relationships, and helping improve responses to domestic abuse within Midwifery settings.

What you'll be doing:

Providing direct support, advocacy and safety planning for people affected by domestic abuse referred through the MiDASS pathway.
Completing risk and needs assessments and developing trauma-informed support and safety plans
Delivering training to Midwives, clinicians and healthcare professionals and supporting the implementation of the MiDASS model
Supporting professionals, volunteers and students through case reviews, reflective practice and learning opportunities
Working collaboratively with statutory and voluntary sector partners to achieve positive outcomes for service users
Maintaining accurate, confidential and meaningful case management records
Contributing to multi-agency meetings, safeguarding processes and partnership working activity
Supporting the development of knowledge and best practice relating to domestic abuse and healthcare-based responses
Contributing to awareness raising, training and service development activities across PTMWA.

About you

You’ll be someone who is compassionate, proactive and committed to supporting survivors of domestic abuse. You’ll feel confident balancing direct support work with partnership working, training and professional relationship building.

You’ll be comfortable working in complex and sensitive situations, using your judgement to respond calmly and professionally whilst maintaining strong boundaries and a trauma-informed approach.

You’ll bring empathy, resilience and a collaborative mindset, alongside a genuine commitment to equality, safeguarding and anti-discriminatory practice.

You’ll be great for this role if you have:

Experience of supporting vulnerable people, including people affected by domestic abuse
Experience of carrying out risk assessments, needs assessments and support planning
A strong understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on individuals and families
Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries
The ability to build effective relationships with partner agencies and professionals
Confidence in delivering training, group work or professional learning sessions
Strong communication skills, including the ability to adapt your communication style and approach to diverse needs
The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a busy environment
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and meaningful case records

Please note that as part of this role, you will need to be willing to work towards becoming a qualified Independant Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) by completing the relevant training course(s). This will be funded by PTMWA.
