An exciting opportunity has become available to work at Middlewich library, a busy community library that provides a quality and diverse range of services for its customers. The position of Senior Library Assistant is for 0.67 FTE (25 hours) per week worked over a two-week timetable.
Week 1: Monday: 10:00–13:00, Tuesday: 9:30–17:00, Thursday: 9.45 – 18.00, Friday: 9.45 – 17.00
Week 2: Tuesday: 9.30–17:00, Thursday: 9.45- 18.00, Friday: 9.45–17:00, Saturday: 9.00-13.00
As a Senior Library Assistant, you will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of the library, including staffing and financial processes, while deputising for the Library Manager as required and, at times, acting as the responsible person for the building. You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of a compliant, efficient and high‑quality library and customer access service, while supervising Library Assistants and overseeing daily routines. As a prominent front‑facing member of staff, you will act as a first point of contact for customers, confidently handling enquiries and resolving issues. You will also be responsible for overseeing administrative processes, finance and business systems. In addition, you may organise and deliver activities, contribute to maintaining a welcoming and safe community environment, and support the delivery of wider council services through the customer service point. Flexibility is essential, as you may occasionally be required to work at different locations across Cheshire East to support operational needs. You will have:
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Experience in a public library environment
- Ability to supervise a small team and work collaboratively
- Confidence using IT systems and supporting customers with digital access
- A genuine interest in books, learning, and community engagement
