National Planner
Working hours: Full-time Monday – Friday
Location: Swindon
The Network Planner will provide a compliant, efficient, and profitable transport operational plan for the Howard Tenens depots and Howard Tenens delivery networks, ensuring that hygiene, quality levels and performance standards are met, whilst promoting safe working practices. You will work closely with the Operational Teams to ensure the plans are efficient and are delivering mutual value.
What you’ll do:
- Plan, optimise, and communicate local and nationwide delivery routes for fleet of vehicles.
- Effectively plan loads to vehicles ensuring on-time collections and deliveries are achieved in line with operational targets.
- Work alongside team members to organise overflow deliveries onto pallet network systems.
- Ensure all routes are legally compliant in line with driver’s hours legislation, working time directive and vehicle weight restrictions.
- Ensure all orders are planned daily.
- Ensure all operational goals are met whilst maintaining focus on (both internal and external) customer requirements.
- Continually review and analyse route performance to identify operational issues or opportunities for ongoing improvement.
- Work alongside the Transport Teams to co-ordinate own fleet and sub-contraction to ensure cost effective solutions for customer requirements.
- Build meaningful relationships with our sub-contractors and partner hauliers to improve efficiencies through additional work, backloads, and sub contraction.
- Use of Howard Tenens TMS.
- Various reports will be expected in line with the Operational activities.
What we’re looking for:
- General Transport knowledge and previous experience of operational processes.
- Demonstrable experience of Transport Management packages and vehicle optimisation systems, and the ability to quickly learn to use them.
- Proven track record in efficiently planning and routing a variety of delivery vehicles from 3.5t Vans to 44t HGVs.
- Strong planning and organisational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail to review and validate order accuracy and integrity.
- Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to understand and influence KPI performance.
- Excellent self-motivation and the ability to work in high pressure scenarios.
- A team player with the ability to instil confidence and drive in others.
- Excellent communication
- A good geographical knowledge is essential.
- Intermediate IT Knowledge to include Excel, Word etc.
