About the role
As Plastics Production Team Leader, you will oversee day-to-day production within our plastics manufacturing department, ensuring work is correctly prioritised, machines are running efficiently, and the team is supported to deliver high-quality output. You will lead by example, remaining hands-on while driving organisation, standards, and flow across the shift.
This role is ideal for an experienced manufacturing team leader, or a skilled machine operator ready to step up into a leadership position. You will work closely with laser cutters, fabrication equipment, finishing processes, and CNC while taking responsibility for leading the team, coordinating daily production activity, and ensuring output, quality, and efficiency targets are consistently achieved.
What you'll do
- Lead daily production activity within the plastics department, ensuring smooth workflow and consistent output.
- Allocate and prioritise work across the team.
- Work closely with Production Planning and other Team Leaders to ensure smooth workflow and effective shift handovers.
- Operate machinery, supporting and setting standards through hands-on leadership.
- Use a forklift to move materials and support efficient production flow.
- Carry out basic machine maintenance, checks, and fault diagnosis to reduce downtime and keep equipment running smoothly.
- Monitor production progress in real time, identifying bottlenecks and resolving issues quickly.
- Maintain high-quality output through regular inspections and early issue detection.
- Support and guide operators on setup, quality standards, and best practice.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organised working environment in line with health & safety and 5S standards.
- Support training and onboarding of new team members.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and quality.
- Communicate clearly with the wider team and management to ensure alignment and smooth delivery.
Who you are
- Experienced manufacturing team leader or skilled machine operator ready to step into a leadership role.
- Experienced in plastics manufacturing, fabrication, laser cutting, CNC machining, or a similar production environment.
- Forklift licensed and confident using it as part of daily production and material handling.
- Competent with basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting to support uptime and reliability.
- Strong communicator who can lead, support, and motivate others in a calm and practical way.
- Quality-focused with a strong eye for detail and high personal standards.
- Organised and proactive, able to balance hands-on work with team coordination.
- Confident problem-solver who can respond quickly to production issues.
- Team-oriented and supportive, leading by example on the shopfloor.
- Reliable, consistent, and committed to maintaining high standards every shift.
Bonus skills (nice to have)
- CNC programming knowledge.
- Previous supervisory or informal leadership experience.
- Experience in continuous improvement or lean manufacturing environments.
- Experience working with acrylic, polycarbonate, or other sheet plastic materials.
