Full job description

We are looking for a Ranger to join the team on the Holnicote estate. Working with an experienced team, you will be helping to deliver management across a large countryside estate, improving habitats and access on a landscape scale. As a Ranger, you’re the heart and soul of the National Trust in the landscapes we protect. You’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

Salary : £27,612 per annum

Contract: 12 month fixed term contract. This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

Hours/ working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.

Provisional Interview Dates: 16th & 17th June 2026.

What it's like to work here:The Holnicote estate is a large and diverse countryside estate set within the Exmoor National Park. Working as a Ranger your role will balance nature conservation, cultural landscapes and estate maintenance, whilst maintaining relationships with farmers and providing visitor engagement. Key responsibilities will include habitat management/creation and ecological monitoring.

What you'll be doing:You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
