Aspira Education are recruiting a Head of Education for a specialist college in Minehead, Somerset, supporting young adults with learning disabilities to develop the skills, confidence and independence needed for adult life.
This is a permanent leadership opportunity within a unique specialist college where education, employability and independent living are at the heart of everything they do.
About the Role
Working closely with the Principal, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the education provision.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment across the college.
- Driving educational outcomes aligned to EHCPs and Preparing for Adulthood pathways.
- Overseeing Functional Skills English and Maths provision.
- Supporting the delivery of vocational and hospitality qualifications.
- Leading quality assurance, self-assessment and improvement planning.
- Developing and supporting teaching staff through coaching and performance management.
- Monitoring student progress and implementing strategies to improve outcomes.
- Maintaining oversight of safeguarding within education.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure students receive holistic support.
This is a role for an experienced leader who can provide clear direction, high expectations and a strong educational vision from day one.

Students access a highly personalised curriculum focused on employability, independence, hospitality training and preparation for adulthood.

What We're Looking For
Essential
✔ QTS, QTLS or Cert Ed
✔ Degree or equivalent qualification
✔ Significant senior leadership experience within education
✔ Experience working within a specialist SEND and/or Post-16 setting
✔ Strong experience supporting learners with learning disabilities and EHCPs
✔ Proven ability to improve educational outcomes
✔ Strong understanding of curriculum development, teaching, learning and assessment
✔ Experience leading quality assurance and improvement planning
✔ Strong people-management and staff development skills
✔ Secure understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Desirable
- Leadership or postgraduate qualification
- Experience leading through Ofsted inspection
- Knowledge of specialist education funding and compliance
- Experience within specialist colleges or Further Education settings
This role is not suitable as a first senior leadership position. We are seeking an established educational leader capable of stepping into a key leadership role and driving continued excellence across the provision.
Transition & Handover
The successful candidate may have the opportunity to spend time within the college during July, working alongside the existing leadership team to support a smooth transition before formally taking up the role in September.
