Platform Software Engineer
Location: Melton
Salary: Up to £50,000
Working hours: 09:00 – 17:30
Hybrid: office based 2 days per week
The purpose of this role is to solve complex business problems and technical challenges through the design and development of software applications and services. This role will contribute directly towards exciting technology opportunities in the public health sector; specifically in general practice.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining critical components of our software infrastructure, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security. This role sits within the platform team.
Responsibilities:
● Work within a small agile team to solve technical challenges, develop new functionality and make non-functional improvements to our platform products and services
● Contribute towards translating business requirements into technical design and development projects and tasks
● Contribute in architectural and design discussions
● Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues
● Identify and contribute towards developing solutions to improve system performance, scalability, and reliability
● Adhere to best software engineering practices and principles
● Collaborate with and unblock other members of the team
● Through remote and in-person collaboration, work together with all stakeholders to understand and progress projects and tasks
Infrastructure & Platform Engineering:
● Load balancing and reverse proxy configuration (HAProxy)
● Message queue administration (RabbitMQ)
● Cloudflare CDN, WAF, and DNS management, including domain registrations
● Cloud engineering (e.g. GCP, Azure, AWS)
DevOps & CI/CD:
● CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance
● Application deployment and release management
● Developer tooling administration (GitLab, Packagist, NPM, Dependabot)
● Dependency management and automated security updates
Incident Management & Observability:
● Assist with the diagnosis and assessment of technical issues
● On-call engineering and incident response
● Monitoring, alerting, and error tracking (Zabbix, incident.io, Sentry)
● Application performance tracking and reporting
Development:
● Promoting software engineering best practices
● Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards
● Internal tooling library development and third-party integrations (Sentry, Laravel)
● Maintenance and support of internal platform tooling
● Platform service/API improvement & development

Essential experience Required:
● Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
● Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure
● Application monitoring, alerting, and incident response (any major tooling)
● Familiarity with load balancing and message queue technologies
● Maintaining and contributing to shared code libraries and internal tooling
● Investigating and resolving customer-facing technical issues
● Working within change control and release management processes
● Good working experience with PHP & Laravel
● Several years’ experience in industry
Desired experience:
● DevOps tooling
● Healthcare industry experience (NHS)
