We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Qualified Nursery Practitioner / Nursery Nurse (Level 2 or Level 3) to join our warm and welcoming team at Smiley Faces or Tortoise Day Nursery in Wellington.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Nursery Practitioner, Nursery Nurse, or Early Years Practitioner who is committed to providing high-quality childcare and creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for children.
We are looking for someone who genuinely loves working with children, understands the importance of early years development, and can work positively as part of a team to deliver excellent care and learning experiences in line with the EYFS framework.

About the Role
As a Level 2 or Level 3 Nursery Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the care, learning and development of children within our nursery setting.
You will help create a safe, happy and stimulating environment where children can thrive, learn through play, and reach their full potential. You will work closely with colleagues, parents and carers to ensure each child receives the highest standard of care and support.

- Candidates with a full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing a safe, caring, stimulating and inclusive environment for all children
- Supporting children’s learning and development in line with the EYFS
- Planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities and experiences
- Observing, monitoring and recording children’s progress and development
- Building strong, professional relationships with children, parents and carers
- Supporting daily routines including play, meal times, personal care and rest times where required
- Acting as a key person for a group of children
- Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence and independence
- Following all nursery policies and procedures, including safeguarding and health & safety
- Working effectively as part of a team to maintain high standards across the nursery
- Preparing and maintaining a clean, organised and welcoming environment
- Supporting children with transitions, settling-in sessions and daily routines
- Promoting positive behaviour and a nurturing learning environment at all times
Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare / Early Years
- Previous experience working in a nursery, preschool, childcare or early years setting
- Good understanding of the EYFS, child development and safeguarding
- A warm, caring, patient and positive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to work professionally, reliably and with initiative
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development
Accepted Qualifications may Include:
- Level 2 Early Years Practitioner
- Level 3 Early Years Educator
- CACHE Level 2 or Level 3
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare / Early Years
- Other full and relevant childcare qualifications
Desirable (but not essential)
- Paediatric First Aid
- Safeguarding training
- Experience in baby room, toddler room or preschool room
- Experience as a key person
- Food hygiene certificate
- Experience completing observations and learning journeys
