The Senior Network Engineer role within the Networks and Connectivity Team, based at Quadrant East, offers an exciting opportunity to lead a skilled and motivated team supporting more than 80 corporate and community sites across North Tyneside. The team plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality network services, leading on the installation, configuration and maintenance of a wide range of modern infrastructure including switching, wireless access, point‑to‑point links, inter‑site connectivity and internet services. As Senior Network Engineer, you will be actively involved in both the strategic management and hands‑on implementation of this work.
North Tyneside Council is committed to developing its workforce and supporting clear progression pathways. Investing in our people strengthens our services and directly benefits the communities we serve. The Networks Team reflects this ethos—bringing forward innovative ideas, exploring creative technical solutions and consistently seeking ways to enhance service delivery for our users.
Working closely with the Principal Engineer and Network Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Network Engineer will provide day‑to‑day leadership to the Network Support Team. We are looking for someone who is motivated to deliver excellent service, able to apply modern technical approaches, and confident in using technology to maximise value and performance across the organisation.
The team has recently completed specialist training to support the replacement of the borough‑wide CCTV network, enhancing safety across public and corporate spaces. They are also actively involved in deploying emerging LoRaWAN technologies to provide strategic insights that support service improvement, financial efficiency and public safety across the borough.
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in supporting and developing a team, managing their own workload effectively while contributing to planning, reporting and delivery across the wider service. They will bring experience of delivering large‑scale or complex network projects, with the ability to assess technical options, evaluate vendors and select appropriate solutions that align with organisational needs.
This role offers genuine opportunities for future progression, and candidates joining from outside the public sector will find the environment both engaging and rewarding. The wider Digital, Data & Technology service is built on collaboration, shared learning and a strong culture of supporting colleagues and deliver high‑quality outcomes for North Tyneside.

Our Carbon Net-Zero 2030 Action Plan
In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council’s operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government’s net zero target of 2050.
We recognise the significant role we can play in the borough in helping to limit climate change, but we can’t do this alone; we need help from all our residents, businesses, voluntary and community sectors and of course all those who apply and work for us. Together we can make North Tyneside a sustainable place to live and work for everyone in the borough.
