Covering Manager – Four Store Role
David Cox Butchers – Glasgow
David Cox Butchers is looking for an experienced, reliable and highly organised Covering Manager to support the operation of our four Glasgow stores in Bridgeton, Kings Park, Shawlands and the Gorbals.
This is role is covering shop managers during holidays, days off, sickness and other periods of absence. The successful candidate will also visit each store regularly to help maintain consistent standards across the business.
The role would suit an experienced butcher, retail manager or supervisor who is confident leading staff, managing busy shops and dealing professionally with customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Covering store managers during holidays, sickness and scheduled days off.
- Supporting the managers across all four stores.
- Ensuring every shop operates to the same high standards.
- Supervising, motivating and organising staff.
- Making sure shops are fully prepared for opening each morning.
- Monitoring customer service and dealing with customer enquiries or complaints.
- Ensuring food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures are followed.
- Checking stock levels and helping arrange transfers between stores.
- Reporting any staffing, maintenance, stock or operational issues to senior management.
- Assisting during busy trading periods and seasonal events.
- Being available to work across all four Glasgow locations.
Daily DutiesOpening the Store
- Arrive on time and ensure the store is ready to open.
- Confirm that counters, displays and preparation areas are fully stocked.
- Check refrigeration temperatures and complete the relevant records.
- Ensure cleaning and opening checks have been completed.
- Review online orders, collections, deliveries and special customer orders.
Customer Service
- Lead by example when serving customers.
- Ensure customers are acknowledged and served promptly.
- Escalate serious complaints or incidents to senior management.
- Maintain a welcoming, clean and professional shop environment.
Store Standards
- Maintain attractive, well-stocked counters and displays.
- Make sure equipment is cleaned and maintained correctly.
- Report repairs and maintenance issues.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in butchery, food retail, hospitality or a similar management role.
- Experience supervising or managing staff.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Good organisational and problem-solving ability.
- High standards of cleanliness, presentation and food safety.
- Flexibility to work across all four Glasgow stores.
- Availability to work Monday to Saturday, depending on business requirements.
Desirable Experience
- Qualified butcher or previous experience working in a butcher shop.
- Experience handling cash, tills and end-of-day procedures.

Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
