This is an exciting opportunity to work in the heart of North Wales on the edge of the stunning Eryri National Park, where the mountains meet the sea. Placemaking and strategic planning issues are diverse and challenging providing a great opportunity for an experienced strategic planner to join a high performing and dynamic Strategic Planning and Placemaking team.
The Strategic Planning and Placemaking team forms part of newly established Housing, Planning and Place directorate, which recognises the importance of developing a strong, robust and resilient team through learning and development.
We are at a pivotal moment in our strategic planning journey. Conwy is now preparing for submission of the Replacement Local Development Plan following recent Deposit consultation. We are collaborating regionally to prepare the North Wales Strategic Development Plan, in addition to leading on various place planning, master-planning and strategic site development projects. Our position makes this a particularly exciting time for a skilled and motivated strategic planning professional to join the team and help shape the future of the Conwy plan area.
Our objective is to contribute to sustainable places and improved wellbeing through a strategic place-making approach. However, we have several planning challenges – we have a housing crisis, we need to contribute positively to climate change, plan for resilient communities, protect our natural and historic environment and ensure that our communities are supported by the right facilities and services.
You will lead initially on housing and affordable housing sites, policies, and evidence with opportunities to lead on several important and diverse planning policy subjects, including employment, historic and natural environment, tourism, green infrastructure, renewable energy, climate change, education, health, minerals and waste, community facilities and sustainable travel - to name just a few. There will be opportunity for the new post-holder to gain further experience and lead on a number of these planning areas and progress the local plan through to the next important stages.
The post-holder will take a leading role; project manage and work collaboratively to deliver on a diverse range of land-use and policy areas. Applicants will need to be innovative, understand the planning policy framework process, be experienced in project management and be competent in leading and delivering key land-use and policy areas. The role offers you the chance to take ownership of planning policy projects and bring your skills and expertise into a welcoming team.
