Overview
Appleton Roebuck pre-school is a small and rural community lead pre-school looking for a new Manager who is committed to supporting children from 2 years through to their transition to school.
We are a small setting with less than 24 children on our books and never more than 15 on a daily basis, due to this we have a small team that works together.
This role would really suit someone caring and Calm with a can do attitude and excitement to make the setting their own.
You will be responsible for ensuring all children receive high quality care, are kept safe, and experience rich and stimulating play activities to meet their individual needs. Reporting directly to the chair of the Appleton Roebuck Pre-School Groups charity.
The successful candidate will lead a small team in the running and organisation of the pre-school. They will directly manage the deputy manager, early years practitioners, and any volunteers or relief staff operating in the pre-school.
They Must have experience of Managing a Preschool setting for more then 12 months.

Please note that Appleton Roebuck pre-school is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children in its care. The successful candidate will be required to undergo suitable person checks including an enhanced DBS check and check of the children’s barred list. A copy of the safeguarding policy will be provided for review as part of any application, and all new starters will undertake a probationary period of six (6) working months.
Responsibilities:
- To take responsibility for identifying and planning of individual children’s needs through the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the curriculum
- To safeguard children through correct procedures including carrying out risk assessments and making/assisting with referrals to social care where appropriate
- To record information and provide reports when needed.
- To be responsible for a high quality of teaching, ensuring staff are properly deployed and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children.
- To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping
- To oversee the key person system and effectively supervise staff
- To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about pre-school, the learning journey, and information about progress and parental involvement.
- To organise and hold parents evenings
- To provide leadership, management, motivation, and to support staff
- To ensure records are properly maintained
- To ensure that the pre-school is a safe environment for children, staff, and others
- To liaise with the management committee, Ofsted, social services, and other professionals as necessary
- To be the Ofsted nominated person and facilitate Ofsted inspections
- To maintain and build relationships with the village primary school
- To uphold, implement, and regularly review all policies and procedures of the group in partnership with the staff team and management committee.
- To manage pre-school expenditure to an agreed budget and liaise with the charity treasurer with regards to invoices and accounts.
Requirements:
- You must have a minimum of a CWDC recognised full and relevant Level 3 Childcare qualification
- experience of managing a pre-school and experience of dealing with Funding.
- Enthusiasm for giving children the highest quality care and education opportunities
- Able to plan, organise and implement the Early Years Foundation Stage
- Ability to develop future educational practice and liaise closely with the local primary school
- Organisational, record keeping, and planning skills
- A positive approach to gaining further skills and qualifications through teamwork and training
- Must have the right to work in the UK, no convictions or cautions, clear DBS
